Therapy for the emotional impact of health challenges and high-stress roles

Hi, I’m Haley Clancy

I am a licensed associate counselor in New Jersey. My work focuses on the intersection of physical health, emotional stress, and high-demand life roles.

Many people reach out when managing their health or responsibilities begins to take an emotional toll. They may notice their thoughts are harder to slow down, their stress feels closer to the surface, or they are reacting in ways that don’t feel like them.

I work with individuals navigating chronic illness, pregnancy and postpartum adjustment, bariatric surgery/obesity, and high-stress roles. What these experiences share is sustained pressure on the body and on emotional capacity.

Therapy becomes a place to understand that pressure, reduce overwhelm, and strengthen the skills needed to function well in daily life.

My approach is collaborative, structured, and grounded in real-world application.

Who I Work With

I work with individuals managing emotional strain alongside demanding health or life circumstances, including:

  • People living with chronic illness or long-term medical conditions

  • Women navigating loss, pregnancy, postpartum anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts

  • Individuals preparing for or adjusting to bariatric surgery, obesity, weight loss, and the ongoing relationship with food

  • First responders managing cumulative occupational stress

  • College students experiencing anxiety, depression, academic pressure, and major transitions

Many of the clients I work with are balancing symptoms, responsibilities, and complex systems simultaneously. Over time, that combination can become difficult to manage alone. Therapy becomes a place to clarify priorities, reduce emotional overload, and approach responsibilities with greater stability and confidence.

Success in therapy looks like improved functioning, clearer thinking, and stronger emotional regulation in daily life.

How I Work

My approach to therapy is collaborative, structured, and grounded in real-world application. I work from a biopsychosocial framework, meaning we look at how mental, physical, and environmental systems interact and influence one another. This allows us to address the whole picture rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation.

Many clients feel overwhelmed by fragmented systems, conflicting information, or the demands of high-responsibility roles. Therapy becomes a space to slow down, understand patterns, and create clarity around priorities and next steps.

I do not position myself as someone who “fixes” problems. Instead, I work as a knowledgeable partner, helping clients understand stress responses, prepare for important conversations, ask informed questions, and advocate for their needs with confidence. When multiple providers or responsibilities are involved, therapy supports coordination, regulation, and informed decision-making.

The goal is to help clients feel more capable managing both emotional stress and external demands.

Modalities I Use

I integrate evidence-based approaches selected to support clarity, regulation, and sustainable change:

  • Practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, and unhelpful behavioral patterns.

  • For processing medical trauma, cumulative stress, and distressing experiences that continue to impact functioning.

  • Addressing the interaction between mind, body, and environment.

  • Increasing understanding so clients can make informed decisions and reduce fear-based assumptions.

  • Supporting organization, planning, and follow-through in complex situations.

Why I Do This Work

My professional background includes experience in emergency prehospital medicine, which shaped my understanding of disease processes, medications, and the real-world impact of acute and chronic health conditions. I have seen how easily people can feel overwhelmed or overlooked within complex systems of care.

My own experience navigating chronic illness further informs my work. I understand the frustration of coordinating providers, seeking answers, and advocating for yourself without clear guidance. That perspective drives my commitment to offering informed, practical support.

I also work with women navigating pregnancy and postpartum adjustment and individuals preparing for or adjusting to bariatric surgery. These transitions often surface anxiety, identity shifts, and long-standing emotional patterns that require structured, thoughtful care.

I am especially drawn to supporting first responders managing cumulative occupational stress and repeated exposure to crisis. Across all areas of my practice, my work focuses on helping clients understand how stress and health-related demands are affecting them emotionally, strengthening regulation skills, and rebuilding confidence in their ability to function well in daily life.
